Connections to the entire United States

The Museum’s Salt Room displays packages of well-known foods produced throughout the United States. Each of these products uses Diamond Crystal Salt manufactured in St. Clair’s Diamond Crystal Salt Plant now owned by Cargill, an industrial conglomerate. This plant is the only location in the world that produces the actual Diamond Crystal Salt using the patented Alberger process.

The company began as locally-owned Diamond Crystal Salt in 1886. The name comes from the diamond-like crystals produced through the Alberger process.

It is told that MacDonald’s Restaurants throughout the United States use only Diamond Crystal Salt from the St. Clair plant to flavor their French fries.
